Duo Directors Assigned to PAYDAY 3 as It Enters the 2nd Year

Hopefully, things will turn out well for the co-op heist shooter.

As Starbreeze Studios' co-op heist shooter PAYDAY 3 is about to celebrate its one-year anniversary in a few days, a change in leadership was announced. The former game director, Mio, will step down from the position, and “in the interim while researching and planning year 2, Andreas and Almir will be the creative force.”

The past year has been filled with challenges and problems for the game. The developers had high hopes for PAYDAY 3, which Head of Community Almir Listo described as “the evolution of the PAYDAY franchise.” However, it was launched with technical issues despite the developers conducting a technical open beta test just before the release.

Even with regular updates to bring new content, such as multiple events, new systems, skill lines, and balance changes, the sequel still didn’t manage to save itself from a mostly negative player review, a sharp contract compared with PAYDAY 2.

In March, Starbreeze felt that new leadership was necessary and parted ways with former CEO Tobias Sjögren, who had been leading the studio for three years. The change was hoped to improve the performance of its game franchises. However, six months have passed, and the expected turnaround has not occurred.

With the game handed over to the duo directors as it enters the second year, hopefully, things will turn out well for the latest title in the beloved franchise.
