Flexible Human Body Rig Set Up With Blender

Brought to us by 3D Modeler oyatsu009.

3D Modeler and VRChat enthusiast known online as oyatsu009 continues working on their brand-new 3D character model, showcasing an impressive custom-made rig set up for it. Thanks to a clever combination of bones, the rig enhances the model's flexibility and allows the character's sides and belly to bend and fold in a realistic manner, forming skin pleats with side-to-side and backward-forward torso movements. According to oyatsu009, the rig was set up using Blender, a free and open-source 3D modeling, texturing, rendering, animation, and VFX software.

Recently, oyatsu009 also presented a neat rig for making the character's armpits look more realistic, you can check out more showcases by visiting the artist's Twitter page:

Earlier 3D Artist Createll also showcased a similar setup, described by the author as a "very very cursed way of weight painting". Using just three auto-weight bones, the system enables one to create detailed folds on 3D models, as demonstrated by Createll setting up lifelike skin pleats for one of their digital characters.
