British private equity firm HgCapital bought London creative software company The Foundry for £200m from The Carlyle Group.

The Foundry has created a set of developer tools that include 3D modelling tool Modo and paint software Mari. The company has also recently acquired Made with Mischief – the maker of a pen-based sketching application, Mischief. According to The Foundry’s CEO Bill Collis, HgCapital is the ideal partner to build on the things The Foundry has achieved with The Carlyle Group.

Collis says that HgCapital has deep expertise in software, chooses partners carefully and has made many well-known companies even more successful. This is achieved with wise investment in both people and R&D (research and development), along with a deep respect for customer loyalty and customer satisfaction.
