Indie Developer Created Water Reflections with Custom Ray Tracing

Recently, we've told you about Truckful, an indie car delivery action-adventure by MythicOwl. Players take on the role of a truck driver who delivers diverse cargo, like ice fish or old vases, across a beautiful countryside, which, however, has its secrets and mysteries.

The game features distinctive visuals depicting picturesque landscapes and suburb roads, created in a soft color palette with complex lighting. Now, the creators of the game took its visual development to the next level and added what they called an "indie ray tracing." With this adjustment applied, the in-game world looks even more picturesque. Take a look at these complex mirror-like reflections in puddles, where trees, light, and even the smallest leaves' shadows are distinctly visible:

MythicOwl explained that a second camera below the subject is positioned to capture an inverted view.

Original ray tracing is a technique that enhances the rendering of light and its effect on a scene. NVIDIA introduced it to such titles as Black Myth: Wukong, Diablo 4, NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, Star Wars Outlaws, and the upcoming Black State.
