This Great Tool For Tracking Changes in Houdini Projects Gets Updated

Hipfile Diff Tool 1.1 is now available, featuring enhanced visibility, API enhancements, and UserDataDict support.

Andrew Golubev, a skilled Tech Artist and Pipeline TD at DNEG, has recently launched Hipfile Diff Tool 1.1, an upgraded version of his difference viewer tool for Houdini project files that introduces essential updates and new features to enhance your workflow.

For those unaware, Hipfile Diff Tool was initially developed in 2023 to address the challenge of tracking changes in Houdini hipfiles. Taking inspiration from git diff, the tool provides dual-view comparisons, visual indicators for changes, synchronized navigation, and a search feature. Its primary goal is to streamline the process of tracking changes in Houdini projects, allowing users to have a node tree view difference.

The update features:

  • Visible Node Input Connections: The tool now displays differences in node input connections.
  • UserDataDict Support: Differences in per node userDataDict are now identifiable.
  • String Diff Window: A new window for comparing lengthy strings or dictionaries akin to IDEs.
  • Link Sharing for Specific Nodes or Strings: Integrate this with studio workflows through environment variable setup.
  • Default Setting – 'Show Only Edited': This option is now enabled by default for streamlined usage.
  • API Enhancements: Significant refinements and improvements in API functionality and unit test coverage.

You can learn more about the new features introduced in the 1.1 update here and download the tool over here.
