35 Million PS4 Consoles Sold

Sony officially announced the record sales of its popular home console PlayStation 4.

25 month after the official release PlayStation 4 boasts 35.9 million units sold. 5.7 million consoles were sold directly during the holiday season, which dragged from 22nd November through 2nd January.

The games for PS4 also sold very well. During the same timeframe over 35 million titles were sold (digitally and in retail). PlayStation Plus program was also a huge success. PS Plus subscribers have risen 60% at the end of 2015 compared to the same time in 2014. These are all great numbers for Sony and a strong indicator of PlayStation’s rule of the home digital entertainment market.

With such a big install base, PlayStation VR chances for success are very high. Analysts believe that the virtual reality headset will sell in huge numbers and will overcome Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Virtual reality is the hottest technology right now, Oculus pre-orders will start today, so Sony will have to be quick to get their product to the users on time.

We are absolutely delighted that so many customers have selected PS4 as the best place to play throughout this holiday season and that the PS4 community is growing more than ever.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to deliver innovative entertainment experiences, and look forward to bringing an unprecedented games portfolio from third party developers and publishers and SCE Worldwide Studios, including Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, New Hot Shots Golf (working title) and The Last Guardian, this coming year.
