Principal Environment Artist at Naughty Dog Matthew Trevelyan Johns has recently shared a new ArtStation post providing a closer look at the incredible ice and snow shaders created for The Last of Us Part I, a 2022 remake of the original 2013 game.
In this breakdown, the author shared tons of details on how the aforementioned shaders were made, explaining how the illusion of depth was set up, what layers they consisted of, how the realistic-looking cracks and chips were set up, and more. On top of that, the creator revealed the software used to create the shaders, noting that the team utilized Maya and Substance 3D software.
"This has been my third Naughty Dog title and it has been an incredible experience, and as always, it takes a monumental team effort in order to make such amazing games," commented the creator. "Without the hard work and dedication of the entire team, across all departments, none of this would be possible."
