How is the Clovers sit on top between tiles? for mine, blend modes doesnt seem to be working... they follow the height of the tiles which results in extreme distortion of clovers following the height changes of tiles

Check out a robust and flexible new tool for path animation in Maya called bh_pathAnim. The tool is simple and intuitive, and will let you attach any rig, with any number of limbs and body controls, to a path and animate it walking or running along it.
The tool is said to work for bipeds, quadrupeds, insects and other creatures, including a function to bake the path animation back to the rig.
The developer has also recently added a new tool:
