If you follow Kojima on Twitter, you have already seen some newest screenshots, which showcase the possibilities of Decima Engine. This is a technology, which was actually developed by Guerrilla Games for Horizon: Zero Dawn. It works well with open world, it provides a lot of opportunities for stylized and realistic visuals (like the images suggest, it’s really photorealistic). Kojima Productions actually invested a lot of time and effort in tweaking and modifying of this technology to make it a better tool for Death Stranding.

“The space development competition has been stagnated after the Cold War. Due to the steep rise in price of space development cost, the investment for the earth has been strengthened and they gave up on the space shuttle program. Meanwhile, I who wants to proceed myself to the moon, met the guerrilla whose plan was to go to the mars. We decided to make the rocket by reforming their engine. And by doing so it enables us to go to the Mars but even to the Jupiter.”

Previously it was reported that Kojima Productions used the technology behind Infamous: Second Son, but it seems they went for a more advanced tech. Death Stranding does look mighty impressive and we can’t wait to learn more about the game and the technology behind it.
