Researcher Jonathan Matthis presented The FreeMoCap Project, a low-cost, research-quality markerless optical motion-capture system.
This new open-source framework allows users to generate full-body skeletal motion from footage of an actor captured with two USB webcams, and there's also a Blender plugin available.
Mathis wants "a 14-year-old with no technical training and no outside assistance to recreate a research-grade motion capture system for less than 100 US dollars".
The developer noted that the project is currently not in a state that's usable for outside users. You can check out the project's GitHub page to learn more. Also, you can follow the project on Twitter.
