A Rockstar Veteran and Tencent Launch an AAA Studio

Tencent Games announced the launch of a new studio in Orange County, which will focus on developing an AAA console game for PS5 and Xbox Series X.

LightSpeed LA is said to be based in Orange County and managed by Rockstar veteran Steve Martin, who led the development of Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.

Martin will act as the studio head and executive producer of development. The manager wants to create "a crunch-free and inclusive culture" for the new studio.

"We're ushering a new era of game culture by combining world-class development with a stress-free work environment," Martin said. "From day one, our teams will be focused on building the highest caliber games while promoting integrity, proactivity, collaboration, and creativity."

LightSpeed LA has already hired a bunch of experienced artists from Rockstar Games, Respawn Entertainment, 2K Games, and Insomniac.

The team's first project is described as an AAA open-world game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
