HANDS ON: FROM BAKING TO RENDERING (July 21st, 9:00am – 12:30pm)

Christophe Desse – Naughty Dog

Go hands-on with one of Christophe’s latest creations take it all the way from baking to rendering in this Substance Painter Masterclass. You will learn every step of the creation process and enjoy Christophe’s legendary verve as he distills his most essential tips and tricks to get the best out of Substance Painter 2.

HANDS ON: SUBSTANCE PAINTER – BIO-MECHANICAL CREATURE  (July 21st, 9:00am – 12:30pm)

Michael Pavlovich – Certain Affinity

In this Masterclass, Substance power user Michael Pavlovich will go through his techniques for creating believable organic and mechanical materials in Substance Painter 2. Attendees will follow the texturing of a full character from a recent AAA game, from basic material setup to wear and tear and final rendering with NVIDIA’s Iray.

DISCOVERING A SUBSTANCE PIPELINE FOR YOUR STUDIO (July 21st, 9:00am – 12:30pm)

Steven Rich – Blizzard

You’ve made amazing graphs and painted wonderful models in Substance programs, but how do you streamline it to be used across your team? Steven will be discussing and showing examples of the different ways to approach pipelines that handle different types of styles such as stylized, PBR, and even things like card games and UI. Let Steven talk about the things that have worked and things that haven’t so that you are better prepared to set up a working pipeline.

ARTIST AT WORK: TEXTURING UNCHARTED 4 (July 21st, 2:00pm – 5:30pm)

Christophe Desse – Naughty Dog

Christophe will be taking attendees back to the streets of Madagascar with this live texturing of Uncharted 4’s infamous Turret Truck. If time permits, he will also demonstrate how weapons were created for the game.

HANDS ON: SUBSTANCE DESIGNER – BASIC CHARACTER SETUP (July 21st, 2:00pm – 5:30pm)

Michael Pavlovich – Certain Affinity

Michael will guide the audience through the creation of a versatile multi-material character setup in Substance Designer. Attendees will then see how this setup can be encapsulated in a custom node and parameters exposed to create variations easily through the Substance Player.

HANDS ON: PIPELINE DEEP-DIVE (July 21st, 2:00pm – 5:30pm) – SOLD-OUT

Steven Rich – Blizzard

Go in depth and hands-on with pipelines as Steven opens up the graphs and pipelines he has created. See how the theories and ideas of creating a cohesive workflow come together and build off one another. Find out how things evolved and get ideas for future plans for some of these pipelines. You’ll come away with all the knowledge you need to get things started at your studio, or maybe adjust things you have already started.

HANDS ON: 101 – SUBSTANCE PAINTER TIPS AND TRICKS (July 22nd, 9:00pm – 12:30pm)

Peter Zoppi – Treyarch

Intended for beginners, this Masterclass will have Peter guiding attendees through the basics of Substance Painter 2. From the initial project setup to the theory behind Physically Based Rendering and a presentation of all the main features of Substance Painter, you will learn everything you need to get started with the tool.

UNCHARTED SUBSTANCE: PROCEDURAL TEXTURING (BEGINNER LEVEL) (July 22nd, 9:00pm – 12:30pm)

Rogelio Olguin – Naughty Dog

Rogelio will go through the process behind texturing environments at Naughty Dog and create fully procedural materials in Substance Designer from scratch. Attendees will be able to dissect the methods and techniques used to transform procedural shapes and noises into beautifully crafted realistic materials.

HANDS ON: PAINTING SKIN WITH SUBSTANCE PAINTER (July 22nd, 9:00pm – 12:30pm)

Glauco Longhi – Sony Santa Monica

Glauco will explain his skin painting process in Substance Painter, utilizing his traditional background and techniques. You will follow along trying to replicate and understand the classic approach to game texture.

HANDS ON: HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT SUBSTANCE PAINTER (ADVANCED LEVEL) (July 22nd, 2:00pm – 5:30pm)

Peter Zoppi – Treyarch

In this Masterclass, Peter will talk about the pipeline side of Substance Painter and how the tool can be used to streamline and customize the workflow when working with custom PBR implementations and large teams. Attendees will also learn how to make Substance Painter interact with external renderers and get the most out of the export options to fit any renderer, real-time or offline.

Glauco will sculpt and texture a few accessories/assets, explaining how to optmize the sculpting phase for texturing, how to put in the right time and effort needed for each stage, and how to speed up the process.
