Apple Made $8.5 Billion from Video Games in 2019

That's more than Microsoft, Activision Blizzard, Nintendo, and Sony combined.

Despite not developing its own games, Apple has managed to outperform all the rivals in the video game business thanks to App Store. According to a new report published by The Wall Street Journal, Apple was able to earn $8.5 billion in 2019 from the 30% of all sales that it garnishes from gaming developers on the App Store. That's more than Microsoft, Activision Blizzard, Nintendo, and Sony combined. According to the same report, Apple is now fighting rivals in a multiplayer universe.

This massive expansion can, however, be halted. Back in August, Apple agreed to let developers of iPhone apps email their users information regarding cheaper ways to pay for subscriptions and media by circumventing App Store's commission system that charges 30%. This inevitably means that the number of profits generated by App Store will decline.
