The update comes with enhanced modeling workflows, new Graph Editor tools, animation performance upgrades, a redesigned Time Slider, and more.
Autodesk has released Maya 2024, a massive update to their flagship 3D animation, modeling, and rendering software. Introducing a slew of new features and updated workflows, the release comes with enhanced modeling workflows, new Graph Editor tools, a brand-new LookDev tool, animation performance upgrades, a redesigned Time Slider, and tons of other improvements and bug fixes.
The highlight of the release is the updates to the Retopologize, Make Live, Quad Draw, Boolean, and Unsmooth tools, which include interface and usability improvements that let modelers produce better results.
Moreover, the release brings brand-new Grab, Smooth, and Smear Curve Sculpting tools to the Graph Editor, which let you instinctively and intuitively shape groups of keys, giving you an easy way to make adjustments on the fly.
Additionally, Maya 2024 brings LookdevX, a novel look-development tool that lets you create USD shade graphs and author custom materials in Maya. With it, you can work directly with USD data to assign, adapt, and create materials within the LookdevX Graph Editor, with LookdevX materials being saved automatically to the USD Layer.
Multiple updates have also been brought to the application's Character animation workflows, including a tool for changing rotation order, support for multiple skin clusters, and a new way to view skin weights numerically.
