Beacon: Low Poly Style Overkill

Have a look at the new game from San Francisco-based company Monothetic, which looks like one of the best stylized shooters ever.

Beacon is a new game from a company called Monothetic. It’s a Unity 5 game, which is aimed at Mac, PC and consoles. Developers have used a very interesting style, which allows to optimise the projects freely and make it run on different machines.

Here’s what the gameplay is like.

Beacon is a sci-fi themed Action Roguelike. Played as a top-down shooter, you must fight your way through a randomly generated hostile world, all the while trying to locate your emergency distress beacon and escape the planet into which your ship has crashed.

While you’re making your way through these areas you’ll not only find weapons and items to help you; You’ll also be collecting DNA from the enemies you defeat. Then, when you inevitably die, you’re given the opportunity to combine the DNA you’ve collected to your own, granting you different stats and potentially gameplay-altering physical mutations for your next run.

The studio’s US CEO in US is actually a 3d artist, level designer and 3d artist Kiefen Zipf. Apart from Beacon, he also published a lot of content for DOTA 2. I guess it’s safe to say, that environments in this game are going to be all right. The creative director Taychin Dunnvatanachit is a modder, who knows Source Engine, UDK/UE4 and Unity.

Not really clear, who’s doing the concept art and general visual design of Beacon, but the game looks positively outstanding. It’s a mix of anime, top down shooters and beautiful clean lighting.

Beacon doesn’t have a clear release date yet.
