73 illustrations (old and new) are added to the newest edition of the first book in the famous fantasy series by George R.R. Martin.

While George R.R. Martin is still working on The Winds of Winter and the next season of ‘Game of Thrones’ TV-show from HBO is nowhere to be seen, Random House is ready to release a nice gift for the fans. The publisher has put together a massive illustrated version of  ‘A Game of Thrones’. It’s got 896 pages and 73 illustrations for each chapter. Some of these images were published in an article by Vanity Fair. We’ve checked the new and old illustrations in this massive post, featuring some of the best artists, who worked with the famous series.

The list of participating artists reads like an all star roster of fantasy illustrators, and includes such luminaries as John Picacio, Paul Youll, Gary Gianni, Didier Graffet, Victor Moreno, Michael Komarck, Arantza Sestayo, Magali Villeneuve,Ted Nasmith, Levi Pinfold, Marc Simonetti, and many more. We’ve had some stunning illustrated editions of A Game of Thrones before, to be sure, with the limited editions from Meisha Merlin and Subterranean Press… but each of those was illustrated only by a single artist. This will be the first edition to feature such a galaxy of talent.

Let’s look at some of the images from the new anniversary edition of ‘A Game of Thrones’ (coming October 18) and marvel at some of the other works by the distinguished illustrators. These images sure provide some of the best examples of quality 2d illustrations in the entertainment industry.
