BioWare Adopts Hybrid Model for Employees

BioWare's general manager Gary McKay announced that the studio is going to make a change in their hiring practices and undertake hybrid remote/office model.

As the whole world keeps having repercussions of the global pandemic, lots of studios in the gaming industry rearrange their work approach like shifting to the hybrid model. BioWare became the latest studio to undertake this model, giving its staff an alternative between remote working and coming to the office workplace.

In a blog post talking over the state of BioWare, general manager Gary McKay reported that the company has made changes in their hiring practices: "Previously, we were only looking for people willing to relocate to Austin and Edmonton; now we’re looking for new talent from anywhere in North America and we’ll meet them where they live".

McKay also announced that BioWare is going to focus on "new tech" to "maximize collaboration and communication between onsite and remote people". He explained that the purpose of the studio is to secure everyone's flexibility giving the employees the opportunity to work from home, but also granting them the freedom to return to the office whenever it is convenient.

"The pandemic has ... taught us a lot about how we can work together, even while working across North America from hundreds of different locations. And now, we’ll use what we’ve learned and apply it to a new work model that will ensure flexibility for everyone in the studio," said the general manager.
