Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 earned $500 million in 72 hours

Activision Blizzard reported about the sales of the most recent Call of Duty title.

Activision Blizzard reported that Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 from Treyarch Studios has earned more than $550 million worldwide in its first 72 hours. Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said that the new game is bigger than any theatrical opening weekend ever!

However it’s not the biggest Call of Duty debut of all time. Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 still holds the record, which broke $500 million in 24 hours in 2012. Forbes reported, that Wedbush Securities predicts the game will sell over 22 million copies year. It’s much better than the previous game in the series from Sledgehammer Games (Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare).

Looks like Black Ops 3 will also break the $1 billion mark, becoming the 6th game in the series achieving this commercial result. We should add, that this FPS also set a new record as the best-selling digital full game by units sold in its first day of availability in PS4 history.
