Chantlings: a Fun Little Singing App

Sing with several unusual characters and explore the colors and shapes of your voice.

Iorama Studio released Chantlings – a singing app that encourages you to explore tone and harmony, colors and shapes of your voice through singing with various characters.

The characters called Chantlings pick up on the tonality of what you sing, your words and rhythm, and "improvise harmonies to complement your melodies."

The app was created in collaboration with Heart of Noise, which made GalaXynth – a workstation-type synthesizer app.

"We set out to design a music app that can be operated without touch. It brought us down a rabbit hole of acoustic analysis, musical counterpoint, vocal synthesis and reactive character animation. Finally, we have arrived at this lovely nook at the bottom of the hole."

Previously, Iorama's developers have made Looom – an animation app that helps artists make animated loops.

Chantlings are available for iPhones and iPads and can be purchased for $2.99 on App Store.
