Consumer Spending on Mobile Games Reached $116bn Globally in 2021

The team also reports ads generated $295 billion across all apps.

App Annie shared a new report revealing that consumer spending on mobile games reached $116 billion globally in 2021. The number is an increase of 15% year-over-year compared to the previous year, the team's State of Mobile 2022 report states

It also shows gaming represents the majority of consumer spending on mobile, with total spending reported as $170 billion across all apps last year.

The new report also noted that Roblox, Genshin Impact, and Coin Master were the highest-grossing games in consumer spending in 2021. What is more, the agency added strategy, MMORPG, and RPGs were the highest-earning genres.

App Annie's report said that consumer spending is currently outpaced by the money from advertising as ads generated $295 billion across all apps (a 23% increase compared to 2021).
