Contact Deformations Machine Learning for Real-Time Dynamic Simulation

The method allows simulating more realistic object deformation.

Researchers proposed a new method to machine-learn detailed contact deformations for real-time dynamic simulation. The contact-centric method allows for simple and accurate learning and as a result – more realistic deformation.

The accuracy is achieved by adding two key ingredients: learning a continuous vector field of contact deformations and sparsifying the mapping between the contact configuration and contact deformations.

Thie research might contribute to great simulation accuracy in the future, be it in VR or just on the screen.
