DC Games Will Be Part of the DCU Stories, James Gunn Confirmed

The newly-appointed DC Studios boss says there will be four types of content for the DCU stories – movies, TV series, animation, and games.

About a month ago, it was revealed that James Gunn, known mostly as the director of Marvel’s Guardian of the Galaxy film series who also directed the sequel to 2016's Suicide Squad and created the Peacemaker TV series based on DC comics, was appointed the co-CEO of DC Studios – a role similar to what Kevin Feige does for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As we know, the MCU is mostly centered around its movies and series while animation and games based on the Marvel comics take place in separate worlds and are not connected to the MCU. As it turns out, the new Kevin Feige-like figure for the DC universe decided to take a different approach with DC Studios.

As Gunn is now in charge of the development of the DC universe on big screens and beyond fans started to ask the director plenty of questions regarding the future of movies, series, and animations based on characters from DC Comics.

When asked by a fan, whether the DCU is set to include games, apart from films, TV series, and animated shows, Gunn simply replied, "Yes" – so apparently, games created by Warner Bros. Games will be connected with the DC cinematic universe from now on.

The first such game is seemingly set to be a Wonder Woman game developed by Monolith Productions, the studio best known for creating Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War. The title was first announced at The Game Awards 2021 and is planned to be a "single-player open-world action" game that will "introduce an original story set in the DC Universe."
