Dead Cells Mobile Sales Surpass 5 Million Copies

The mobile version of Dead Cells has sold more than 5 million copies since its release on iOS and Android.

Publisher Playdigious announced that the mobile version of Castlevania-inspired action-platformer Dead Cells has sold over 5 million copies. This result has been achieved three years after the initial mobile release.

According to Playdigious, the 5 million figure doesn't include trial versions or subscriptions.

Dead Cells, initially developed by the independent studio Motion Twin, was first released on PC and console in 2017. The game's development was later taken over by Evil Empire. After its initial success on PC and console, the game was ported and published to mobile platforms by Playdigious in August 2019.

The title received critical acclaim and won awards such as "Best Action Game" at The Game Awards 2018 and the Pégase for Best Mobile Game in 2020.

"The steady sales growth and substantial reach of Dead Cells in China, followed by Europe and the USA, proves that console-like paid games can have great success technically and financially on mobile," Playdigious's co-founder Xavier Liard said in a press release. "We again want to wholeheartedly thank Motion Twin and Evil Empire for putting their trust in us, and of course the players for their loyalty and continued interest in the mobile version of the game."
