Valve earns money for The International’s prize-pool by selling The Compendium. It is a virtual booklet that allows interaction with the tournament and the game. Owners of The Compendium also help the team achieve stretch goals and add new content to the game. This year the developers added the Wyvern Hatchling Courier after a $9 million mark. Gamers will also enjoy a new desert terrain in the future.

In 2014, Valve managed to raise $10 million with the same tactics. $5 million went to the winning team. The International is two months from now and the players have already surpassed $11 million in donations. The company hopes to raise as much as $15 million for this year’s event.
