EA Reportedly Laid Off 200 Apex Legends QA Testers During Zoom Call

The Baton Rouge office was unpleasantly surprised.

Electronic Arts has reportedly laid off over 200 contract QA testers at its Baton Rouge office during a Zoom call. According to Kotaku's sources, the staff mostly worked on Apex Legends developed by Respawn Entertainment.

Apparently, the employees were informed about an unscheduled Zoom meeting where the entire QA team was disbanded.

"As part of our ongoing global strategy, we are expanding the distribution of our Apex Legends testing team and ending testing execution that’s been concentrated in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, impacting services provided by our third-party provider," a spokesperson told Kotaku. "Our global team, inclusive of remote playtesters across the U.S., enables us to increase the hours per week we’re able to test and optimize the game and reflects a commitment to understand and better serve our growing community around the world."

It seems like even the supervisors hadn't been told that they would lose so many of their employees. Those that were let go will get 60 days severance, which still won’t cover many people's contracts.

The news comes soon after EA shut down Apex Legends Mobile, which was later revealed to be a "Titanfall-feeling" single-player campaign in Apex Legends.
