Experimenting With 3D Character Facial Controls in UE5 MetaHuman

"I think I broke her mouth at the end...lol."

3D Character Artist Yongdan Zeng has recently experimented with Unreal Engine 5's MetaHuman, a robust framework that lets you create, animate, and use highly realistic digital human characters, presenting the results of these experiments with a series of cool video showcases.

According to Yongdan, she applied MetaHuman rigs and GUI to a custom-made 3D character and tested out the facial controls, demonstrating the range of motions for the mouth and eyes with the first demo. In the second and third demos, the artist showcased the animated version of the same model, depicting the character making several goofy, serious, and eerie faces. "I think I broke her mouth at the end...lol," jokingly noted the creator, referring to some of the facial expressions seen in videos number two and three:
