Extended Reality Market to Generate $6.7 Billion in 2020

Carter Rogers from SuperData shared the details of the report with the previsions on the XR market this year.

Game industry analysts provider SuperData revealed some data from the report on the XR market. The report states that AR and VR revenues will be $6.7 billion by the end of 2020.

Both markets got the biggest boost this spring during the first COVID-19 lockdown when 71% of headset owners in the US spend more time playing games than usual. Users were also more into spending money on games than usual. However, this tendency doesn’t appear during the second wave due to the following unemployment.

Released in March 2020 Half-Lyfe: Alyx also boosted the popularity of VR. The report revealed that the game has earned more money than all VR games in 2019 together. The boost was supported by other high-level games like Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond and Star Wars: Squadrons but Alyx had the biggest impact.

AR market was mostly influenced by Pokémon Go that got a lockdown update and gave an opportunity to play the game in one place or outside while keeping the social distance.
