My motivation wasn't to knock Cem, not as a person nor as a developer. As I said, "this is cool, no doubt about that". I was sharing my personal opinion about the price-point for a material that is so expensive (performance-wise), and pointing out the fact that the same look can be achieved for cheaper (both performance and wallet-wise). I personally find it hard to budget 10s of dollars for a single material, a single effect, etc., but that's me. Other people have money pouring out of their ears and can afford to play like that. The internet is getting less friendly as far as opening dialogues like this. People should be able to have opinions and share them, debate them, without being told to hush up and move along. I hope others buy and use this asset- I'd be curious to see how it stacks up to alternatives out there (again, as I said "I love options"). As far as making my own assets and releasing articles here? It's in the works. And if somebody came along and started a dialogue about issues, opinions they had, or whatever- I would be happy to engage them!

We’re working as fast as we can to get Rifts to customers who preordered. If you preordered, you’ll get an email when your order is being prepped, 1-3 weeks prior to shipping, and then another one when your payment method has been charged and your Rift is on its way.

30 VR games are available at Oculus marketplace as of this moment, and to experience them you just need to go Oculus.com and order your device. Just be careful as some of them might make you seasick. There are different “comfort levels”, ranging from comfortable to “intense”. The marketplace also provides 360-degree videos and photos, with Oculus Video for Rift, Facebook 360 videos, and Vimeo and Twitch livestreams.

We’ll be adding feature-length movies, new partners, and lots more content to Oculus Video soon. You’ll be able to choose from several standalone experiences, including Jaunt VR, which features hundreds of cinematic stories. You’ll also be able to step into Henry and Lost, the first two real-time animated films from Oculus Story Studio, free for a limited time on the Oculus Store.

Developers are so proud of their product that Palmer Luckey, founder OculusVR Inc. decided to take one day off and go all the way to Alaska to give the first Rift to lucky Ross Martin.

I said hey guys, I’ve been working on this since 2009, we’ve been working on Oculus since 2012, I’ll be damned if some random delivery guy is going to get the satisfaction of delivering the first Rift. That’s mine. So I could figure I could take a day out of the launch process and take a quick vacation in Alaska.
