Fan Mod of Deus Ex Approved by Square Enix

Caustic Creative overhauled the original Deus Ex in collaboration with Square Enix.

Indie developers often like to work on different remakes of their favorite games. However, this does not always work, since unauthorized products are usually killed by the owners of the original IP. But there are exceptions to things, and the story of Deus Ex: Revision is one of them.

Today Square Enix and Eidos-Montréal released the original Deus Ex modded by Caustic Creative. The fans overhauled the environments and soundtrack of the original Deus Ex and called their project Deus Ex Revision. The best thing is that you can download the whole thing for free from Steam.

“Where other projects fill in detail around the edges of the game by tuning gameplay mechanics or improving textures, we focus on the visceral core of the Deus Ex experience, bringing new level design, aesthetic direction and world-building detail,” said John French, Creative Director, Caustic Creative.

It’s great that Square Enix actually found common ground with the developers of the mod and let them release it. This is a nice way to help the young team of fans and it’s also a great opportunity to market the upcoming Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
