Set for release in Fall 2016, an Unreal Engine built Friday the 13th multiplayer horror game is in the works by Gun Media and it has the personal blessing of Sean S. Cunningham, the director of the original movie. It’s currently on Kickstarter and is headed for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Slasher Volume 1: Summer Camp

The game was previously known as Slasher Volume 1: Summer Camp which was heavily influenced by Friday the 14th, and Gun Media has been creating and testing an internal prototype for a while now. They were already past pre-production and were about to move into production until Sean S. Cunningham came into the picture after finding out about the project. Cunningham has always wanted a Friday the 13th game and he approached the team and told them that if they use the license and make what they already have with Slasher Volume 1 into something better and stronger, they will have earned his respect and the license. As huge fans of the franchise, that’s the best thing Gun Media could have ever heard.

Friday the 13th

It is a 1v7 multiplayer game (rated M for a good reason) which is set in the semi-open world of Camp Crystal Lake. You can play as either Jason Vorhees or one of the seven camp counselors. If you’re Jason Voorhees you get to stalk the camp counselors and kill them in a variety of different ways that is sure to appease your thirst for blood. Grab a counselor, pick them up and slam their face brutally into a tree or throw them onto a rack of farm spikes, the power is in your hands, or shall we say, your prey.

Want to be one of the camp counselors? You can work with your other teammates to either escape or take down Jason. Choosing the latter comes with a high likelihood of getting you killed, however, if you’re able to successfully do it, you’ll get bragging rights and the satisfaction that you made the impossible possible.

‘Movie Trailer’ System

JASON-80lv

A cool thing about the game is that there will be a ‘Movie Trailer’ system which will play at the end of every match. It’s basically a highlight reel of the best moments in the game and every time you play, a different movie will be created. With these movies you can share the best trailers with the community of gamers.

Fear System

Jason Voorhees is such a feared force of destruction that anybody who dares to take him on gets fear struck into them. Without knowing where he is, the counselors have to do whatever it takes to keep that fear in control or else they will become too paranoid and start to doubt what is truth and what isn’t.

Unlockables and Stats

Play enough and you can unlock multiple Jason character models from the classic films as well as different Camp Counselors that will have their own stats that are unique to each individually. There are more unlockables planned for the future.

Tommy Jarvis

One of their biggest goals is to bring back Tommy Jarvis, the male protagonist of the 3 of the Friday the 13th films, as a guide for you. As this is a stretch goal, they are hoping to give the players a fully 3D environment where access to the story of Jason can be unlocked, including in-game progress. You can also collect bits and pieces from Camp Crystal Lake for use with him and if you do enough, a special surprise will be given to you.

Single Player

1 of 4

At the beginning, the game was planned to be just a multiplayer title, and the budgeting allowed just for that. After they received the license the creativity and ambitions went on full drive forward and that’s where a proposed single player option came to be.

Horror Legends on the Team

Here’s the list of handpicked horror legends  who are working on the project alongside Gun Media:

sean-cunningham-80lv

Sean S. Cunningham: In 1971 he produced the original wes Craven cult classic The Last House on the Left. He also directed and produced Friday the 13th and created the villain Jason Voorhees, which went on to spawn 12 sequels, with another scheduled for release next year.

Tom Savini: He’s an award-winning special makeup effects icon who has worked on movies such as Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Creepshow, and Friday the 13th (parts l and lV), and more. He’s putting his skills towards masterminding the different ways Jason Voorhees will kill and brutalize the camp counselors. He’ll also provide his horror philosophy to create a top-notch title.

kane-80lv

Kane Hodder: Jason Voorheez himself. He is the stunt coordinator and actor who played the iconic killer and he will do the motion capture as well.

Harry Manfredini: He is the man who has been the film composer behind 148 films. He was also responsible for the original Friday the 13th score and soundtrack, including eight other films in the series.

It’s exciting to see what the future will hold with this wonderful game. An interview with the team is set so be on the lookout! And interested in making this project come alive? Here’s the Kickstarter.
