Frost Giant Studios Raises $4.7M for RTS Game

Frost Giant Studios, a new game studio launched by former Blizzard Entertainment developer, has raised $4.7 million to develop its first real-time strategy.

Tim Morten and Tim Campbell told GamesBeat that they want to attract more attention to the real-time strategy genre, and they think that that RTS games on the PC can still be a major part of the gaming industry.

Bitkraft Ventures led the round. 1Up Ventures, GC Tracker, Riot Games, and Griffin Gaming Partners also joined the initiative. The team will use the funding to hire more developers, build a gameplay prototype, conduct consumer research, and more.

Morten was previously the production director on Blizzard’s StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void, while Campbell worked as the original lead campaign designer for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne.

"In order to build another brand-new RTS, it felt like the opportunity to do it externally was too good to pass up. But I think all of us had a lot of love for Blizzard that made it a difficult decision to go this route," Morten noted.
