An absolutely great read, thank you for this. Really lays a foundation on how to go about the learning process.

Hi Matthew and Mr VFX, I’m currently researching this topic of decomposing images into shading and reflectance layers. I would love to learn about what you are trying to use this for to learn more about applications for this technology.

More exciting announcements from the team of Game Developers Conference 2019. The developers of Into the Breach will be at the event to discuss their developments techniques.

Subset Games’ Matthew Davis will be leading a Design track “‘Into the Breach’ Design Postmortem” to give the audience an unprecedented look at the way this critically-lauded strategy game was made.

The talk will discuss how Subset Games approaches difficult design challenges: which feature to cut, how to successfully “steal” design elements from other games, how to decide on the correct difficulty, and more.

The developer will also provide practical design suggestions based on the way Subset Games approaches design. It will be nice for anyone interested in how smaller-scale projects get created.
