George R.R. Martin About Elden Ring Reviews

The author of A Song of Ice and Fire and Elden Ring's worldbuilding contributor commented on the game's positive reception.

FromSoftware's Elden Ring was released less than a week ago but has already been surrounded by favorable reviews and comments. George R.R. Martin, who worked on the game's worldbuilding, updated his blog and commented on the game's reception.

"The wait is over. Years in the making, ELDEN RING was released last week, and has been taking the gaming world by storm."

The writer seems to be excited about Elden Ring's success and says the positive reviews are "music to the ears." He doesn't take all the credit for the game creation, admitting that most of the work was done by Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team and praising the game and the people behind it.

"I am honored to have met them and worked with them, and to have played a part, however small, in creating this fantastic world and making ELDEN RING the landmark megahit that it is."

Just yesterday, we covered FromSoftware's President Hidetaka Miyazaki's interview, where he talked about the difficulty of Elden Ring and other games of the studio. In the same interview, he mentioned Martin's contribution to the game, saying that the writer was limited by creating the backstory, not the actual script. Martin was to write the world's setting, its characters, and its mythology, while Miyazaki would then see how the history affected the story the player experiences.

"If [Martin] had written the game’s story, I would have worried that we might have to drift from that. I wanted him to be able to write freely and not to feel restrained by some obscure mechanic that might have to change in development."

Seems like both Martin and Miyazaki did well if the overall positive reception is to be believed.  What do you think about this collaboration?
