The Aichi Prefectural Government is now working on a theme park that will be dedicated to the works of the beloved Ghibli studio.
Here are some details on the zones:
There will be a giant steampunk elevator inspired by Howl’s Moving Castle, plus a full-sized replica of the Chikyuya antique shop from Whisper of the Heart.
This zone will have an exhibition room, a video exhibition room, playing areas, shops, and cafes.
The next one will revolve around the existing real-life version of Mei and Satsuki’s house from My Neighbor Totoro. The team states the surrounding “Showa-era landscape” will replicate Totoro’s hometown, plus there will be a forest area similar to Totoro’s Forest in Saitama.
Focus on Princess Mononoke — Ashitaka’s Emishi tribe and the Tatara Irontown.
An area for restaurants and rest areas, inspired by the wasteland of Howl’s Moving Castle and the Okino residence from Kiki’s Delivery Service.
The team is now finalizing designs and financial details, and the construction for the first three areas set to begin in 2020.
