God of War's Creator Thinks That the Character of Kratos Took a Wrong Turn

Kratos became too soft.

In a recent video released by the creator of the God of War series, David Jaffe, we can see that Jaffe is not fond of the direction PlayStation took regarding the franchise, and in particular, Kratos himself.

The franchise initially focused on hack-and-slash gameplay, extreme violence, and an edgy storyline. However, the series concluded with a trilogy and spin-offs. In 2018, God of War received a "soft reboot" that portrayed Kratos in a more mature and nuanced manner, reflecting the developers' own experiences as they became parents.

Even though the series received critical acclaim and awards, Jaffe, who did not work on the recent God of War games, believes they deviate from the character's essence and the franchise's spirit. He suggests that personal experiences should be channeled into new IPs and characters, drawing a comparison to Indiana Jones settling down and becoming a father.

The new direction of God of War has garnered immense popularity and the best reviews in the series. The recent DLC has impressed fans, solidifying the franchise's success. While the future of the series remains uncertain, it is expected to continue thriving.
