GamesIndustry.biz reports that Sony is closing the Cambridge branch of Guerrilla Games (MediEvil, Primal, Ghosthunter, Killzone Mercenary). All employees laid off. Guerrilla Games Amsterdam, which is working on Horizon: Zero Dawn and the Killzone, will continue to operate and will not be affected. This information was confirmed by Sony, regretting ‘the compulsory redundancies’.
So why did they decide to close the studio? The management reviewed all the current PlayStation projects and resources, concluding that “in order to deliver on our strategic objectives, it is necessary to make some changes to the European studios structure”. If possible developers will be reallocated onto other projects. Sony will also help them to land jobs at local studios, where possible. Cambridge is sprt of a hub for UK deveopers. There’s Frontier, Ninja Theory, Jagex. We’re sure that the talented artists and game developers from this team will find new jobs!
