Ok, what about LODs and billboards in "most commonly used method"..? In comparing, Most commonly used method can help me to reach less synthetic look. And with progressive LODs keep overdraw on predictable level. Brutforce approach never works - confirmed)

Alex Senechal has shared a guide that goes over the process of making your edges perfectly aligned in 3ds Max.
Stop wasting time Z-Scaling, just promise to cut Zscaling use in half by new years, you owe it to yourself. This probably exists in some form for almost every 3d program, just find a plugin. Disclaimer, I zscale only when its not on XYZ axis.
