Code found in the updates for Destinations and Dota 2 might have information of the franchise’s future.
Valve is known for its love for VR. The company has tons of VR games on the Steam store and its own VR headset, the HTC Vive. It is stated that Valve might be getting ready to release one of its biggest franchises in VR format.
Valve News Network (VNN) claims that Half-Life VR is in the works. Valve’s Destinations received an update, which featured a code referring to something called HL:VR with details on weapons, VR controller movement and other features.
What is more, a DOTA 2 update from just a few days ago might also be related to Half-Life:VR. One piece of its code is “used to force the HL:VR to speak”.
A couple of years ago Valve programmer Jeep Barnett stated that the company wouldn’t say no to Half-Life VR and that Valve’s team would love to work on the idea. Game’s writer Chet Faliszek claimed that Half-Life 3 won’t support VR, but there can always be a spin-off or something else.
The project could definitely result in a huge boost for the whole VR market and the idea seems to be great. Still it’s worth noting that the news might be fake as there were tons of Half-Life leaks, but we’ve still heard no official announcements on the franchise’s future.
