Harry Potter-Inspired Phoenix Model Made With Maya & Substance 3D Painter

The creator utilized Ornatrix to set up the majestic creature's feathers.

3D Character/Grooming Artist Ramón Tapia has unveiled Phoenix, a stunning model of the mythical bird inspired by its depiction in the Harry Potter movies. According to the author, the model was created using Maya, ZBrush, and Substance 3D Painter and rendered in Arnold. Additionally, the creator utilized Ornatrix, Ephere's solution for creating digital hair, fur, and feathers in Maya, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, and Unreal Engine, to set up the creature's feathers, with each individual feather being different from the others.

"In Maya, Ornatrix has a powerful node, which allows you to create multiple hairs per the common hair strand. This is very helpful for creating vegetation, or, in this case, feathers. It is tricky, but if you know what you are doing, you are totally safe," commented the creator. "
All of his body is covered with feathers. Every feather is different, whether of its length or clumping, shape, etc. It's made initially of guides, sculpted by hand, combined with procedural modifiers. And because the feathers around his face are so tiny, I also added a normal groom system for performance."
