Hideo Kojima Once Worked on a Project Similar to The Boys

The project was set to have "settings and tricks" which would be different from the Amazon series. However, it still had to be put on hold due to the similarity to the show.

Hideo Kojima has recently revealed that he once worked on a project in the vein of the Amazon hit show The Boys.

On his Twitter account, the game designer shared that the Amazon show's concept was incredibly similar to what he had in mind. According to Kojima, The Boys' premiere in 2019 coincided with the period when he was about to start working on the new project that he had been "warming up for a long time."

Although he noted that there were some differences from the Amazon series – his project was supposed to be "a buddy (male/female) thing with a special detective squad facing off against legendary heroes behind the scenes" as well as was set to feature "different settings and tricks." He also shared that he planned to invite Mads Mikkelsen (who already starred in Kojima Productions' most recent title, Death Stranding) to the lead role.

Nonetheless, due to the similarity to The Boys, the project had to be put on hold, Kojima said.

The game designer didn't clarify whether this shelved project was meant to be a new game or a project in a different medium which also may be the case since, at the end of 2021, the studio launched a new division focused on music, TV, and film.

Currently, Kojima's studio is working on a new cloud-based game for Xbox which the game designer refers to as the game he's "always wanted to make." According to Kojima, the new project will use Microsoft's "cutting-edge technology" and will "change in the industry's trends."
