A documentary by Complex has been released that explores how two independent video game developers, Jonathan Söderström and Dennis Wedin, were able to make a 2D PC game that took the world by storm, earning widespread critical acclaim.

Dennaton Games (Jonathan Söderström and Dennis Wedin’s game studio) has created something unforgettable. Hotline Miami is an extremely violent game that came out of nowhere to sell over half a million copies and even went on to parent a sequel that did quite well in its own right.

The documentary is 30 minutes long and tells the story of how the two were able to create one of the greatest indie games ever to be created. You’ll hear about the struggle they had to go through (which sounds a bit like hell on earth) just to come out with this beautiful game which includes: money problems, breakups, and depression. There are candid interviews with everyone involved including: developers, artists, musicians, and publisher Devolver Digital.
