Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg presented a new mobile headset called “Oculus Go” at Oculus Connect 4 in San Jose.
Facebook VP of VR Hugo Barra called the device, “hands-down the easiest way for developers to get involved with VR.” Oculus Go is lightweight and “feels incredibly soft to wear.” The project features lenses that have the same wide field-of-view as Rift and a small controller similar to the one that comes with the Gear VR.
The device also offers a “fast-switch” WQHD LCD screen and spatial audio. Go will also be cross-compatible with all Gear VR titles. A little is known about its specs or battery life right now. Dev kits will ship in November, so we’ll have to wait for more details until then.
Oculus Go is a way to conquer a new market for Facebook, allowing the giant to slowly move away from relying on phone manufacturers with their entry-level VR experiences.
