Megascans Digest: Recreating a Scene from Dark Souls

Check out 4 assets from Megascans Library that will come in handy for you if you want to recreate a scene from the franchise or another abandoned place inspired by it.

For this week's digest, we decided to take Road of Sacrifices, one of the locations from Dark Souls, and pick assets that will help you recreate the scene or create a new environment inspired by it. We took an abandoned place with an almost completely ruined castle the recreation of which seems to be an interesting challenge to take.

1. Mossy Rock

For the mountains, we suggest you check out this Mossy Rock asset. In the original scene, the mountains are covered in moss and seem to be made of huge almost smooth rocks without obvious layers.

2. Roman Stone Wall

There are plenty of old brick assets in the library, we stuck to the look of the original location and chose this pale, uneven brick wall from ancient Rome that you can tweak by adding some moss on it to make adjust it to the scene.

3. Castle Column

A perfect choice for recreating columns made of brick! These columns will definitely come in handy while working on the remains of the castle walls. You might want to adjust the color tone of it to match the brick asset, but the rest seems to be on spot.

4. Burr Clover

To add some vegetation to the environment besides moss, we suggest you add this Burr Clother asset. It looks quite like the grass from the original shot and grows in the same way.

If you want to dive into the environment production process and learn more details, read our interview with 3rd World Studios where the team discussed its approach to working with assets, materials, and lighting for their abandoned scene Reclamation.

This article lists a few assets on quixel but does not elaborate any of the techniques used and the process, it was a bit underwhelming

Frankly, it's worthless. Show us how these broken walls are made.
