Metal Gear's Snake Voice Actor Remembers Doing the 2016 Ford Ad

David Hayter couldn't believe that Konami would go with it.

Back in 2016, Ford Motor Company launched a commercial for their Ford Focus SE car, presenting one of the greatest and most unexpected crossovers ever seen in advertisements. Stylized as a Codec call from Konami's Metal Gear Solid games, the ad featured a conversation between the Colonel and Solid Snake, with the former telling the latter about the technical specifications of the aforementioned vehicle and saying that it is "the perfect vehicle for driving around Shadow Moses Island".

Nearly seven years after its airing, Actor and Director David Hayter, known to many for providing the English voiceover for MGS' Solid Snake and Naked Snake and who voiced the character in the ad in question, shared a short story explaining how the commercial came to be.

According to Hayter, the Producers were fans of MGS and asked Konami's permission to use the game and its characters for a then-upcoming ad, and to the Actor's surprise, the studio agreed. "I did a commercial for Ford as a VO Actor, and the Producers were big Snake fans. So they said, 'Hey, if we got permission from Konami to use Snake in an ad, would you do it?' 'Sure,' I said, certain it would never happen. Then it did," wrote the Actor on his Twitter page.
