It was obviously known that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was a huge hit at launch, but details to just how successful it was, wasn’t known until now. A recent report unveiled the that on the opening day, the title made $179 million in global sales, which equals to around 3 million units sold internationally.
The most mind-blowing thing about this success is that it cost Konami $80 million to make this game and within a day they were able to make over double what they paid for the cost of development. And with more titles waiting to be released in the coming months, Metal Gear Solid V still has enough time to capitalize on this and make more sales, which will potentially break the 10 million unit count.
Metal Gear Solid is a beloved and extremely successful series that has continued to thrive and survive since 1987. With every new title that comes out, they improve upon the previous title and it’s amazing how far it has progressed – but I mean, when you have someone like Hideo Kojima masterminding it all, it’s not all that surprising is it?
