Metroid: The Sky Calls 3D Animation

Rainfall Films and Sam Balcomb have premiered its newest live action short set in the Metroid universe. The movie starrs Jessica Chobot (Nerdist) and America Young (Halo 5). The theme of the next “Fantasy Filmmaking” project was defined by the user vote. Rainfall is the company that produced a number of fan-shorts including Wonder Woman, Legend of Zelda movie trailer for IGN.

Metroid: the Sky Calls lasts 12 minutes, showing an awesome deep space adventure with aliens, explosions and intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran. The visuals of the movie are heavily inspired by games and movies of the 80s (in particular 1986). Apart from classical 3d effects and post-production, the producers used a lot of old-school techniques. There were a lot of VHS transfers. Custom scanned 16mm film stock were implemented to give the video a retro look.

Jessica Chobot (Nerdist) and America Young (Monster High, Halo 5) did their own motion capture and stuntwork. This definitely helped to build a better and more detailed
