Miniclip Acquires Subway Surfers Developer SYBO

The deal is set to complete this July.

Subway Surfers maker, SYBO, announced it has been acquired by UK-based mobile games publisher Miniclip. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed but the companies noted that the acquisition is set to complete in July this year.

The acquisition follows the 10th anniversary of SYBO's hit mobile title Subway Surfers. The developer shared that the game now has over 150 million monthly active users as well as is one of the most downloaded games in the world – it has become the first title that surpassed 1 billion downloads on Google Play and is the most downloaded endless runner on AppStore.

"When we started this 10 years ago, our dream was to create something special that would be loved for generations to come," SYBO’s co-founder Bodie Jahn-Mulliner said. "We have really had perfect flow in our partnership and gaming adventure, which has now culminated in what is one of the biggest – if not the biggest – deals in Danish gaming history."

Following the acquisition, SYBO intends to retain its leadership team including its CEO Mathias Gredal Nørvig; COO and Head of Games, David Byrne; CCO and Head of Marketing, Naz Amarchi-Cuevas; Chief People Officer Anne Schnack Hansen; and Finance Director Andreas Glenvig.

SYBO is one of the latest acquisitions made by Miniclip. Since 2019, it also acquired such companies as Masomo, Eight Pixels, Gamebasics, Green Horse Games, and Supersonic Software.

Miniclip's CEO Saad Choudri noted that the company's goal has always been to build high-quality games which defined its business and delivered "consistent growth through building [the company's] M&A with fantastic and innovative new partners."

"Which is why the SYBO Team felt like such a natural fit, having developed one of the world’s most popular games," he said. "We are beyond excited to welcome them into the Miniclip family as we empower them to keep running and running!"
