Mixer 2020 Is Here

Quixel shared the first Mixer 2020 preview release which introduces the first look at early 3D support.

The update brings features for texturing single objects and restyling Megascans assets: Multi-channel 3D Painting, Megascans Smart Materials, Real-time 3D Curvature, Material ID Masking, Seamless Texture Projection, and more.

Please note that Mixer is available for everyone, free of charge. What is more, Unreal Engine users have access to the entire Megascans library for free.

The latest version allows you to load your mesh, apply a Smart Material, and 3D paint the finishing touches making it a perfect tool for all kinds of tasks. You can paint or sculpt with your custom brushes using the revamped 3D brush system, add wear and tear using scans and procedural masks, and more.

You get to change the look of any Megascans asset, so you have full control over the entire library. What is more, setting up Smart Materials is easier than even before. "Just group your selected layers, right-click the group and save it as a Smart Material. Done! What’s more, Mixer 2020 comes packed with dozens of Smart Materials ready to use in your project," wrote the team.

Users can also create realistic wear, tear and dirt accumulation using the new real-time curvature system. "This procedural component adapts dynamically to your geometry, Smart Materials, procedural layers, and brush strokes, giving incredible creative control over the definition of your assets," noted the team.
