Motiva has recently revealed Unknit, an upcoming UV unwrapping and packing toolkit for Unreal Engine and 3ds Max. The plugin is said to pack UV islands automatically, minimizing use of texture space avoiding very small islands to deal with some issues.
A little is known about the feature set, but the process here is basically “set the maximum level of UV stretching you’re prepared to tolerate, and hit Start”.
Unknit will be released in the first quarter of 2018 with a “big promo price”, so we’ll have to wait for more details.
