New NVIDIA Omniverse Features Announced at GTC 2022

NVIDIA announced updates to Omniverse apps, new rendering technologies, ecosystem expansion, Omniverse Cloud, and more.

At GTC 2022, a global AI conference for developers that brings together developers, engineers, researchers, inventors, and IT professionals, NVIDIA announced massive updates to the company's real-time 3D design collaboration platform NVIDIA Omniverse and all of its apps – Create, Machinima, and Showroom. The new updates promise to dramatically accelerate 3D creative workflows, utilizing the power of GeForce RTX and NVIDIA RTX GPUs.

The company has also announced the expansion of the ecosystem by introducing new Omniverse Connections that are now available in beta: Unreal Engine 5 Omniverse Connector and the Adobe Substance 3D Material Extension, with the Adobe Substance 3D Painter Omniverse Connector being close behind.

Regarding rendering, NVIDIA stated that artists can now use Pixar HDStorm, Chaos V-Ray, Maxon Redshift, and OTOY Octane Hydra render delegates within the viewport of all Omniverse apps, with Blender Cycles coming soon. Soon, artists will be able to switch between the Omniverse RTX Renderer or their preferred renderer, giving them the ultimate freedom to create.

NVIDIA also announced Omniverse View 2022.1 which will enable non-technical project reviewers to collaboratively and interactively review 3D design projects in stunning photorealism, with several great new features.

The company has also announced Omniverse Cloud, a suite of cloud services that gives artists, creators, designers, and developers instant access to the NVIDIA Omniverse platform for 3D design collaboration and simulation from up to billions of devices. Among Omniverse Cloud’s services is Nucleus Cloud, a simple “one-click-to-collaborate” sharing tool that enables artists to access and edit large 3D scenes from anywhere, without having to transfer massive datasets.

"Designers working remotely collaborate as if in the same studio. Factory planners work inside a digital twin of the real plant to design a new production flow. Software engineers test a new software built on the digital twin of a self-driving car before releasing it to the fleet. A new wave of work is coming that can only be done in virtual worlds," states Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA. "Omniverse Cloud will connect tens of millions of designers and creators, and billions of future AIs and robotic systems."
